English Language and Bilingual Programs in Development, Voices from the Field: Research from the Specialist Program in Bilingual Education
The research in this volume of Voices from the Field focuses on two main areas: English language programs and bilingual/ immersion education in development. Most of the programs examined find themselves in various stages of development, renovation and reform. Some of them are new programs or innovations being developed as we publish, and others o offer insights to conditions and programs that already exist in educational institutions in an effort to establish a description of baseline conditions and point the way forward for future work.
The research in the volume includes exploratory and descriptive studies as well as action research, and small scale studies on well-established programs. All of the studies offer unique insights into teaching and learning processes locally here in and around Bogotá, and might also shed light on similar processes elsewhere in Colombia and Latin America.

This is a first approach to a document analysis about the meaning and nature of peace linguistics in the educational context, more specifically in the language classroom. This is a field that may often be present but unexplained, and even ignored in such settings. Besides enriching the academic discussion about an issue that becomes a fast-growing international concern, the significance of this project lies on the fact that it can provide ample and deep sources to comprehend how peace linguistics is conceptualized and the way it can be incorporated into the classrooms.

Authentic video materials, a tool for vocabulary learning and global citizenship skills reflection
Research in the EFL classroom has constantly highlighted the value of authentic materials to teach English because they help learners integrate various aspects of language learning and provide exposure to real-life language. However, authentic materials are not yet used as desirable at the college level, nor does a pedagogical model about how to use them in the classroom exist. Thus, an action research study was carried out to analyze how using authentic video materials helped low-intermediate and intermediate level students develop their communicative competence concerning vocabulary gains.

Deconstructing and critiquing interculturality through film within a bilingual education program in bogotá, colombia
Popular culture stimulates the consumption of certain perspectives about global contexts. In many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes, educators incorporate music, movies, or TV shows to provide students with material from Anglophone cultures that also emphasize certain cultural aspects; however, many times there is a lack of critical media literacy in using such materials, which reinforces stereotypes and essentializes ideas about certain cultures.
